I am constantly moving between painting and sculpture allowing them to feed into each other. I use character as a means of distancing myself from the work and am searching for the character within. There are elements of the Absurd within the ordinary and this is significant in how I see the work. The serious and comic combined.
By placing sculptures in groups or pairs they share a conversation whilst still retaining an individuality. This reflects my interest in the concept of ‘Entanglement’ in quantum mechanics where two or more particles become linked, regardless of distance. I am currently working in a more abstract way, still figurative in that the sculptures have a life within them but are less reliant on the human form as a recognisable motif.
Since graduating in 2000 with a degree in Illustration I have spent many years drawing, painting and running workshops. In 2018 I graduated with an MA in Fine Art and this is when I began thinking in 3D. Effectively taking the drawings off the wall and into a physical space.
This is where I am now, feeling my way with the sculpture and the ideas that are still entangled with my earlier work and thoughts
